Using digital crop from Leica cameras in CaptureOne
For some reason, this is an unresolved issue in CaptureOne. With the Leica Q3, for example, we can use different digital crops in the camera, and obviously, when we start to edit our pictures, it would be great to see the crop we used originally. Although CaptureOne gives the best image quality with your RAW files, it does not retain the original in-camera crop. But there's a solution for this. As I am a Mac user, I only know how to solve this on a Mac, but I think Windows users can get almost the same solution, but I didn't test that. Applescript is an easy and great solution.
Scripts for the win
While there is no official feature in the software, we can use scripts in Mac OS to solve this. Only three tiny things are needed for this in order to work properly.
The first one is Homebrew. Install it from here: Homebrew
The second one is ExifTool. Install it from here: ExifTool
The third one is the script. Download it from here: CropScriptCaptureOne
Now we have everything installed. I can confirm that it works with MacOS Sequoia 15.2 and CaptureOne Pro 16.5.3.1. If, for some reason, your OS refuse to open any installer, go to System Settings - Privacy & Security and open the installer from there.
Finishing steps
Now we only have to update CaptureOne's script library so we can use the script we just copied into the right folder. With CaptureOne open, go to the Scripts menu, Update Scripts menu. Done, we are finished installing our new "tool". Now comes the real magic. You can do this one by one, or on any number of pictures simultaneously. Select the pictures, go to the Scripts menu and execute Crop from Exif script, done, you should see the original in-camera crop in CaptureOne.
